Congressman Blackburn Receives Distinguished Leader Award from the Susan B. Anthony List

Friday, March 14th, 2014

Susan B AnthonyCongressman Marsha Blackburn last night received the Distinguished Leader Award from the Susan B. Anthony list. The national group honored Blackburn with their highest achievement award for her ongoing work to protect life.

Majorie Dannenfelser: “A consistent champion for life, Representative Blackburn boldly led last year’s floor debate in support of historic legislation to protect babies after 20 weeks – more than halfway through pregnancy. Her leadership spurred several states to take action and continues to inspire change in the hearts and minds of Americans across the nation,” said Dannenfelser, president of the SBA List. “Representative Blackburn is already recognized as one of the foremost and fearless leaders of the pro-life caucus here in Washington. She is never afraid to go on offense for the unborn and women whether she is debating opposing members of Congress or media pundits. We’re thrilled to present her with the Distinguished Leader Award in recognition for her courage in taking on the tragedy of late abortion.”

Congressman Blackburn: “I am honored to receive this recognition from my friends at the Susan B. Anthony List, whom I’ve worked with for over a decade. The SBA List is one of the nation’s leading pro-life advocacy groups. Working together over the past year, we took the fight to Congress and succeeded in passing legislation to protect the lives of babies and their mothers such as the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act and the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. I will continue to lead this important effort to ensure the unborn are provided the same protections that all human life deserves.”

Congressman Blackburn is an ongoing champion for the rights of the unborn. In June 2013, she led the floor debate for H.R. 1797, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, playing a leading role in its passage. She introduced H.R. 61, the first pro-life legislation of the 113th Congress. As well, Blackburn helped lead the debate for passage of H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act which would prohibit all federal funds from subsidizing abortion services.
