The Tennessean: Marsha Blackburn holds key advantage in Tennessee Senate race, poll finds
U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn is leading the pack in terms of name recognition in Tennessee’s U.S. Senate race, a new Vanderbilt University poll finds.
The poll, released Thursday, found 73 percent of respondents recognized the Brentwood Republican's name.
Like Blackburn, name recognition for former Gov. Phil Bredesen, who is the lone Democrat in the race, remained high, with 65 percent of respondents saying they knew him.
Twenty-two percent of respondents recognized former Republican Congressman Stephen Fincher's name.
The only other candidate the poll asked respondents about was James Mackler, who 10percent of respondents said they knew. Mackler, a Nashville attorney and Iraq War veteran, dropped out of the Democratic race Wednesday.
The poll was conducted by the Vanderbilt University Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions between Nov. 16 and Dec. 5. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points. A total of 1,013 registered Tennessee voters were surveyed.
