As you know, I have been fighting for several weeks to stop Federal Government bureaucrats from selective enforcement of regulations against musicians, instrument retailers and resellers across the country.
Last week, Representatives Jim Cooper and Mary Bono Mack joined in this fight and the 3 of us introduced important legislation to help protect small business owners from becoming victims of these unfair regulations. The “Retailers and Entertainers Lacey Implementation and Enforcement Fairness (RELIEF) Act” clarifies the Lacey Act, which Congress updated in 2008. Regulations coming from unelected bureaucrats in Washington often have unintended consequences on the manufacturers, dealers and consumers of goods and services in America. The selective and excessive enforcement of these regulations are killing jobs and striking fear into the hearts of those who may unknowingly be in violation of the law.
I will continue to fight against job killing regulations promulgated by unelected bureaucrats. We must get the federal government out of the way of the job creators. It really is that simple.
We have a lot of work to do to get our economy back on track and put millions of Americans back to work. I will lead the way on any effort that helps and encourages small business owners and that includes stopping this selective enforcement of onerous regulations.
The RELIEF Act is a starting point, and one that Congress should act on immediately!
